About this role
The Betegon Lab (https://betegonlab.org) at the University of Pittsburgh Ophthalmology Department is looking for a motivated Research Scientist to work on the development of novel AAV technologies that will enable safe and efficient gene therapies.
The candidate must have a PhD in biophysics, biochemistry, biology, structural biology, or related field.
Demonstrated and extensive experience with protein expression in bacterial or mammalian cells and FPLC protein purification is required for this position, as is experience with protein assays and basic molecular biology techniques including molecular cloning. Previous experience working with AAV is not required.
Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.

Under the supervision of the PI, the researcher will lead the design, development and evaluation of novel AAV technologies.
Other tasks are to: present research findings at meetings, contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and train students in the lab.

The position may require some physical effort, for example, moving and lifting boxes containing laboratory supplies and equipment. The employee may also be required to sit and work at a laboratory bench or desk for extended periods of time.
