About this role

RTX is an aerospace and defense company whose research organization, BBN Technologies, develops advances in areas including machine language translation and quantum cryptography. The Research Software Engineer I will work on AI-based planning and scheduling, compiler or operating-system capabilities, and prototype software development, collaborating with colleagues and incorporating feedback to deliver practical solutions to complex problems.

What you'll do:

  • Work with a small team on cutting-edge research and development projects, focusing on AI based planning and scheduling (e.g., in the context of joint all domain command and control), novel compiler (e.g., LLVM passes) and/or OS-related (e.g., kernel modules, userland services) capability development
  • Design and develop prototype software using the latest open-source technologies
  • Receive and incorporate feedback from end users, field tests, and exercises
  • Explore technical possibilities collaboratively with motivated, world class colleagues
  • Deliver practical solutions to complex problems

What they're looking for:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or STEM major obtained by start date
  • Experience with Java and/or C, Linux, basic Networking, and Cloud Integration
  • Experience with distributed systems, middleware, and AI
  • Creative problem solving and experimental design
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Work in a self-directed manner as part of a team
