Department Information

 

The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep and Occupational Medicine has over 100 faculty and over 50 staff supporting the clinical, research, and education missions of Indiana University (IU). The division has multiple clinical trials, National Institute of Health (NIH) funded projects, foundation awards, and internal awards to support their research.

The James Lab offers a dynamic and collaborative research environment focused on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary vascular disease. Our work integrates molecular biology, cell culture, and animal model platforms to investigate vascular cell interactions, metabolic signaling, and disease progression. The research technician works closely with lab members across these complementary experimental approaches, gaining broad hands-on experience while contributing to mechanistic and translational studies aimed at identifying new therapeutic strategies for vascular disease.

Job Summary

 
  • Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results.
  • Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments.
  • Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training.
  • Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management.
  • May train junior-level staff.
  • May help plan experiments or short-term goals.

EDUCATION

Working Conditions / Demands

 

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
