This position is responsible for providing members with information regarding the New Mexico Educational Retirement Boards (NMERB) retirement process, eligibility requirements, membership statements, refund information, monthly benefit amounts, auditing and preparing retirement applications, tax withholding information, direct deposit information and ERB website login issues.

How does it get done?

 
his position serves as the first point of contact for walk in members, providing a high level of customer service and professional support. As a front line representative for Member Services, the role also manages incoming calls, mail, and other administrative duties to ensure members receive timely, accurate, and courteous assistance.

This position is responsible for receiving and distributing daily mail from the office mailbox and drop box, as well as mailing, faxing, and emailing documents to ERB members and Local Administrative Units (LAUs). It also scans documents received in the Albuquerque office via walk-ins, mail, and the drop box and routes them appropriately to other ERB departments.

In addition to these responsibilities, this position provides members with information regarding the New Mexico Educational Retirement Board (NMERB) retirement process, eligibility requirements, membership statements, refund information, monthly benefit amounts, auditing, preparing retirement applications, tax withholding information, direct deposit information, and help with NMERB website login issues.

This role holds significant responsibility in maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders and providing essential support throughout all stages of the retirement process. The position also audits, reviews, and enters members data and retirement documents into NMERBs  Browser system, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and high quality member service. Through these duties, the role supports the efficiency, reliability, and member focused mission of the Educational Retirement Board.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

-Providing retirement counseling with regard to the Educational Retirement Act or Public Employees' Retirement Act
-Interpretation of the Educational Retirement Act or Public Employees' Retirement Act
-Adhering to strict deadlines in a high volume office environment
-Dealing with difficult people in person

Minimum Qualification

 
High School Diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years of direct experience in bookkeeping, retirement processing, benefits administration, and/or auditing. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

 
Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

 
Work is usually performed in an office setting, with extensive exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), personal computer and telephone usage. This position also requires the employee to use a copy machine, printer, fax machine and 10 key calculator. Sitting for long periods of time, bending, stooping to file, and occasionally lifting a minimum of 25 pounds.
