Revenue Accountant

SM Energy Company is seeking a Revenue Accountant to process and post revenue transactions, maintain master data, and review monthly analytics. The role also supports owner relations by responding to inquiries and analyzing owner revenue data, while contributing to reconciliations, audits, and process improvements.

What you'll do:

• Process, validate, and post revenue transactions
• Process prior period adjustments
• Perform master data set-up
• Record incoming cash receipts to appropriate accounts
• Assist with owner relations by responding to owner questions and inquiries, including pulling and analyzing owner revenue reports and data
• Review and set up ACH payment information in accordance with company policies and controls
• Perform the reconciliation and analysis of various accounts
• Apply developing accounting and/or process knowledge within job responsibilities
• Assist with responses to internal/external audit requests
• Identify and recommend improvements to processes within functional area
• Participate in department or cross functional projects/initiatives
• Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; model and promote company culture and values

What they're looking for:

• Working knowledge of MS Office applications
• Working knowledge of SAP PRA and FICO modules, Salesforce, Microsoft Power BI and Alteryx
• Demonstrates a strong work ethic, is a team player, and applies critical thinking with an attention to detail
• Developing understanding of industry revenue standards and practices
• General working knowledge of US GAAP
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field of study
• No relevant work experience required (4+ years in lieu of education)
• Internship or previous related work experience a plus
• Oil and gas accounting experience a plus
• CPA or CPA candidate a plus; APA, CIA, CFE, CGMA or other relevant professional credentials and certifications a plus
