Job Description Summary

The SafeRide Driver provides safe, reliable transportation and safety escort services to Chapman University students, faculty, staff, and visitors during evening operating hours.

This position supports the mission of the SafeRide program by promoting safety, delivering excellent customer service, and assisting with transportation operations.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate university vehicles while transporting students, faculty, staff, and visitors within designated SafeRide service areas.
  • Provide safety escorts and transportation services in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist passengers and provide excellent customer service during all interactions.
  • Answer phones, assist with dispatch operations, and communicate with other SafeRide staff via two-way radio.
  • Complete required logs, reports, and data entry accurately and promptly.
  • Adhere to all university, traffic, and SafeRide safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain assigned work schedules and demonstrate reliability and professionalism.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or have a minimum of three years of licensed driving experience.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and DMV driving record check.
  • Ability to work evening and late-night hours.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work responsibly and independently in a safety-focused environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Chapman University and SafeRide service boundaries.
  • Previous customer service, transportation, or public safety experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Federal Work-Study eligibility is preferred but not required.

Special Instructions to Applicants

Successful completion of criminal background and DMV check required for final candidate(s).

Have a current motor vehicle license and must have 3 years of driving experience or be 21 years of age or older.
