Overview The Senior Account Manager is responsible for the retention, and growth of CalVEBA's largest and/or most complex client accounts. This role leads proactive account planning, strengthens relationships across management and union leadership, and ensures complex client needs are addressed through coordinated internal resources and consultative service delivery. This role is intended to expand the Client Services model by adding senior-level capacity for strategic execution, risk management, and stakeholder engagement beyond day-to-day benefits administration. How you'll make an impact Provide day-to-day and strategic account management for assigned large, complex, or high-value accounts. Develop and execute proactive account plans that support retention, client satisfaction, renewal readiness, and long-term partnership goals. Build, expand, and strengthen relationships with benefit administrators, management-level stakeholders, union leadership, and senior client decision-makers. Identify account risks, service trends, emerging issues, and relationship gaps; recommend and implement mitigation plans before escalation is required. Lead coordination of internal resources to resolve complex client needs, support renewal strategy, and deliver consistent service outcomes. Identify opportunities to increase engagement, adoption, service value, and coverage levels where appropriate. Mentor Account Managers on relationship building, meeting preparation, issue resolution, strategic follow-up, and account planning practices. Reduce dependency on senior leadership for routine complex escalations by independently managing senior-level account issues when appropriate. Strategic Expectations From To Primarily execution-focused account service Strategic oversight and relationship expansion on key accounts Reactive response to workload and escalations Proactive planning and setting expectations Benefit administrator-centered engagement Multi-level engagement with management and union leadership Leadership involvement in many complex day-to-day issues Senior Account Manager ownership of appropriate complex issues About You Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of client coordination, account management, benefits, or related client service experience; OR high school diploma and at least 10 years of relevant experience. Demonstrated ability to manage complex client relationships and influence stakeholders at multiple levels. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly present issues, recommendations, and follow-up actions. Ability to quickly identify critical issues, assess risk, and drive resolution through collaboration and sound judgment. Active license required, as applicable to role requirements. Able and willing to travel approximately 30% of the time, mostly local. Preferred Experience supporting public sector, school district, labor, or trust-based client relationships. Experience with renewal planning, benefit strategy, client presentations, stakeholder engagement, and service escalation management. Prior experience with trust operation a plus. Success Measures Improved strategic oversight and proactive planning for assigned key accounts. Expanded relationship depth across client management and union leadership. Stronger retention support through earlier risk identification and coordinated follow-through. Reduced senior leadership involvement in day-to-day complex account escalations.
