Summary
THIS POSITION IS OPEN ONLY TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES IN THE TARRANT COUNTY TAX OFFICE
Plans, coordinates, and supervises the flow of work of the Tax Office Accounting staff. Leads and performs complex accounting research, reconciliations, and projects daily. Provides training and supporting documents for internal, external, County, and State audits. Maintains strict internal controls over financial transactions and County assets. Reviews, analyzes, and validates the accuracy of the General Ledger used to generate the Tax Office financial statements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Directs and oversee accounting staff. Reviews staff’s key critical daily work output, journal entries and project results. Plans and coordinates the activities of staff. Communicates issues with the Director for guidance.
- Recommends course of action for problems staff encounter. Assists where needed. Trains and cross-trains staff for new tasks.
- Ensures accuracy of financial records and reports. Checks for proper General Ledger classification and resolves any discrepancies.
- Assists Tax Office staff with interpretation of financial data. Solves problems encountered with financial records.
- Prepares various analyses and reports as required for the Tax Entities, Attorneys, State, Tax Assessor, and Auditors.
- Prepares the final month end bank account reconciliations for the five Tax Office bank accounts that are used to develop the Tax Office financial statements and resolves accounting issues as necessary. Ensures the Bank Account reconciliations are properly and accurately completed, research outstanding variances to resolution.
- Assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements and reports. Serves as resource for answering audit requests from internal, external, State, and County auditors. Monitors budget spending levels for each Tax Office department.
- Develops and maintains the Tax Office General Ledger System processes and acts as the accounting team system testing specialist.
- Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Accounting Department as assigned or required.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Accounting degree preferred. Minimum four (4) years of accounting, auditing, or Tax Office experience required.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Ability to collect and analyze financial data and draw logical conclusions.
- Ability to recognize risks and communicate those risks to management for action.
- Ability to make decisions based on relevant criteria.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient use of spreadsheet and word processing required.
- Data mining techniques preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment & Other Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, walk, climb, stoop, lift, push and pull.
