About this role
About the Department
The Transit Oriented Development (TOD) department is seeking an exceptional candidate with a background in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a similar area. TOD oversees a diverse portfolio of projects working on or adjacent to MBTA property and is responsible for ensuring construction safety, successful delivery of new assets, and conformance with all relevant building code, standards, specifications, and directives.
This position will support the Manager of Construction TOD and Deputy Director of Project Support in monitoring and reviewing construction submittals, attending construction meetings, ensuring construction safety practices are followed, monitoring construction projects’ adherence to MBTA standards, specifications, and directives, and assisting in other program support activities as needed.
The most qualified candidates would be enrolled in a graduate program in the field of architecture, engineering, construction management, or a similar area and have relevant academic or job experience in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a similar area. The most qualified candidate would also have above average skills in professional communication, reviewing construction submittals, and excellent understanding construction safety, logistics, and management. We are looking to hire 1 co-op, who will work at minimum 2 days in-office and 3 days remote (40 hours per week) for 6 months (January – June).
Position Duties
- Support TOD staff by organizing, collecting, and documenting construction information.
- Work with Project Managers and Manager of Construction to review drawings, work plans, submittals, and other construction documents.
- Assist in monitoring construction safety, successful delivery of new assets, and conformance with relevant MBTA standards, specifications, and directives.
- Perform occasional site visits to ensure compliance with all departmental policies, guidance, and procedures.
- Assist in organizing, analyzing, and tracking TOD program data.
- Assist in quarterly reporting.
- Participate in team / staff meetings, organization events, fieldwork, project teams, or other duties as needed.
- Additional responsibilities may include focusing on one or more departments or locations. See applicable addendums or hiring manager for department or location specific functions.
- Provide internal and external customers with courteous and professional experience.
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Above average ability to read and understand construction drawings, standards, and specifications.
- Above average proficiency in Microsoft Office and / or Adobe Acrobat.
- Above average ability to communicate effectively in English, both in written and oral forms.
- Highly organized, motivated, and have great attention-to-detail.
- Strong interest in public service, transit, or transportation and how it operates.
- Above average ability to work effectively in diverse, collaborative, fast-paced environments as well as independently.
- Ability to independently commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area, as required by the role.
- Authorized to work in the United States (international students in CPT, STEM, or OPT programs through a university are eligible to apply). The MBTA does not provide visa sponsorship, such as H1-B status.

Other Qualifications
- Experience with Bluebeam, GIS, and/or CAD.
- Previous relevant academic or job experience in architecture, structural engineering, civil engineering, construction management, or a similar area.
