Senior Data Engineer

Overview:
The Offers team within Mastercard’s Loyalty Solutions is responsible for delivering highly personalized, card-linked offers to consumers by combining insights from our advertising network with anonymized transaction data. This platform sits at the core of Mastercard’s value proposition, enabling innovative, data-driven experiences at scale.

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer with strong Big Data expertise who brings technical depth, innovation, and a passion for building high-quality, scalable systems. This role will drive the design and development of critical data platforms while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams in a fast-evolving technology landscape.
As an individual contributor, you will play a key role in shaping solutions, mentoring engineers, and delivering impactful projects that advance our platform capabilities.

About the Role:
-Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable Big Data applications and platform capabilities
-Own end-to-end delivery of critical projects, including prioritization, timelines, and execution
-Build highly performant, resilient, and responsive systems that meet business and customer needs
-Drive engineering excellence through code quality, testing, and continuous improvement practices
-Actively participate in agile processes including sprint planning, story elaboration, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives
-Partner closely with Product, Business, and cross-functional Engineering teams to translate requirements into technical solutions
-Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture
-Contribute to architectural decisions and continuously evolve platform design to support scale and innovation

All About You:
-Proven experience as a Senior Data Engineer, working with either cloud-based or on-premises data platforms
-Strong programming expertise in at least one modern language such as Java or Scala
-Solid computer science fundamentals including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis
-Hands-on experience with Apache Spark for large-scale data processing
-Experience with both relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL technologies
-Strong working knowledge of Big Data ecosystem and streaming technologies, including:
-Hive, Impala, Oozie, Airflow, NiFi, Kafka
-Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and basic scripting (e.g., Shell scripting)
-Experience designing and developing high-scale distributed systems
-Understanding of both Software Engineering and Data Engineering paradigms, with the ability to apply best practices across both
-Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP)
-Exposure to real-time data processing and streaming architectures
-Prior experience leading technical initiatives or mentoring engineers

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
