Posting Details
The North Regional Division (NRD) provides project development, technical design, and design oversight for projects in District Four (4) and Five (5). Working alongside New Mexico Department Of Transportation (NMDOT) General Office and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) personnel, the North Region Division advances NMDOT projects through both internal design efforts and consultant oversight. The North Region Division is also provides oversight on local agency projects that use federal funding for design and construction activities. The North Region Division is based out of the Santa Fe NMDOT General Office and is comprised of professional engineers, technicians, and administrative support staff.
Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, Manager, Engineering classifications must obtain a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license within six (6) months of their date of hire, in accordance with the Engineering and Surveying Practice Act, Sections 61-23-1 through 61-23-32 NMSA 1978, and 16.39.1 through 16.39.8 NMAC, as applicable.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to received three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.

* Coordinate and communicate with the NMDOT District personnel.
* Collect preliminary design information for project development and scope, allowing timely
completion of project-related tasks.
* Recommend design alternatives to improve project constructability within identified budget
during milestone inspections.
* Develop project designs that meet current highway and bridge design standards
(American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, Manual on Uniform
Traffic Control Devices, Roadside Design Guide, etc).
* Support the preparation of project schedules for all assigned projects.
* Contribute to the development of project scope and scoping reports with partners
(NMDOT District and General office staff, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Planning
Organizations, Tribal and Local Agencies, other stakeholders as needed).
* Prepare preliminary estimate for use by NMDOT Districts in determining funding to be programmed.
* Assist with management of consultant tasks to ensure projects are completed on time and on-budget.
* Coordinate consultant work review with other sections within the department.
* Ensure consultants follow applicable state and federal design standards as defined in
negotiated contracts.
* Other tasks as required at NRD.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline and three (3) years of engineering experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be licensed by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire.
Employment Requirements
Employment requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results.
Business Reference check and Driver's License verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results.
