DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This position will support the Storm Sewer Maintenance section and provide administrative support in acquiring, tracking, controlling and disposing of the City's fixed assets in a manner that safeguards and allows for sound management of the public's asset investment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates the acquisition, inventory, maintenance, transfer, and disposition of fixed and controlled assets while ensuring compliance with City, State, and Federal regulations and departmental policies. 
  • Maintains accurate fixed asset records and perpetual inventory systems; records capital asset acquisitions and ensures compliance with applicable funding source and accountability requirements. 
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts physical inventories; reconciles inventory discrepancies; maintains inventory accuracy; and prepares reports to support financial reporting, audits, and internal controls. 
  • Performs asset management functions, including depreciation processing, financial reconciliations, month-end and year-end closing activities, and the preparation of asset-related financial and operational reports. 
  • Coordinates the transfer, surplus, replacement, and disposal of assets by evaluating asset condition, utilization, repair costs, and remaining useful life to support lifecycle management and replacement planning. 
  • Investigates lost, damaged, or stolen assets; prepares required documentation and reports; and ensures proper retirement and disposition of assets in accordance with established procedures. 
  • Collaborates with internal departments, divisions, and external stakeholders to improve asset management processes, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote efficient stewardship of City resources.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions.

This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Materials Management, Business Administration, Accounting or a closely related field. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One (1)  year of experience in inventory control or materials management is required. Four years of responsible experience in inventory control/materials management may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Preference will be given to applicants with the following:

Texas Driver’s License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).
