Why does the job exist?

 
The purpose of the position is to accurately diagnose/repair equipment in the field, maintain accurate records, overhaul gasoline and diesel powered equipment in the Shop or in the field, experience utilizing scanners, computer diagnostic/repair program and computer skills.  Applicant should be conscientious and proactive about safety.

How does it get done?

 
Diagnose and perform all repairs on all types of machinery and equipment to include but not limited to; semi-trucks, graders, dump trucks, bulldozers, tractors, mowers, rollers, pickups, sedans.
Repair machinery & equipment to include but is not limited to gasoline engines, diesel engines, hydraulics (pumps, valves, and hoses), vacuum systems, brakes, clutches, transmissions, electrical, computer systems in the District shop and in the field (roadway right-of-way) as required. Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts purchases, and equipment forms.

Ideal Candidate

 
The ideal candidate will possess the following:

- Possess good communication, documentation and organizational skills.
- Experience in utilizing scanners, some type of computer diagnostic/repair program and computer skills.
- Be conscientious and proactive about safety.
- Experience in diagnosing/repairing equipment in the field, prioritize urgent repairs and be responsive to the needs in the field.
- Be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualification

 
One (1) year of work experience in a repair shop or maintenance facility. Educational experience in automotive service repair may substitute for required experience. Must possess or obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License, Class A (or equivalent license from another state) within one (1) year of hire.

Employment Requirements

 
This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess a valid Driver's License. A Class A Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements for specific job assignments may be required at time of interview or the ability to acquire within 6 months of hire.  A pre-employment background investigation is required. Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and drug test and is conditional pending results. Business and/or personal reference checks and driver's license verification are also required, and employment is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

 
Work is performed outside in varying weather conditions; work irregular hours; subject to call out for emergencies; the incumbent must use computer based diagnostic equipment, read and understand hydraulic schematics and perform necessary repairs with hydraulic gauges. Frequently lift up to 50 pounds & occasionally lift and carry up to 90 pounds. This position requires frequent travel with overnight stays and maybe required to travel District Wide. Possible geographic location change. Must be available to respond to emergency call outs on short notice.
