Summary

Plans, manages, and coordinates the complex information technology cloud and data center program activities and personnel requiring multi-disciplinary collaboration and broad program scope; oversees activities associated with on-premise data center operations and cloud infrastructure; manages infrastructure and cloud migration engagements, including cloud migration strategies, migration planning, sourcing options, business case, and implementation coordination; leads in the design, implementation, and migration activities of new IT infrastructure and cloud infrastructure environments; exercises leadership to design, create, implement, assess, and revise programs or activities of the section.

Qualifications

Required

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in managing on-premise data center operations, cloud infrastructure, and/or cloud migration engagements, some of which shall have been in a supervisory or leadership role.
    • Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
  • Knowledge of theories, procedures, practices, materials, and methods related to cloud-based infrastructure, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions, operation systems maintenance and support, and data center infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of school organization, mission, and the requirements for assigned function to accomplish mission.
  • Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS), G Suite for Education, Microsoft 365, and data center and virtualization technologies.
  • Knowledge of DevOps in modern cloud environments and DevOps tools for source control, configuration management, automation, containerization, and orchestration.
  • Knowledge of related laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Skilled in personnel, financial, and administrative management.
  • Ability to manage, evaluate and supervise program activities and personnel.
  • Ability to effectively lead teams in multiple projects.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and/or present information to groups.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Major Duties/Essential Functions

  1. Creates, designs, and oversees the broad activities of cloud and data center program activities including management, implementation, and support of enterprise-class technology data center infrastructure architecture, such as servers, email, storage, and cloud-based services.
  2. Leads and guides teams responsible for server, systems, and storage technologies administration, ensuring that existing solutions are properly maintained, including the installation of required software, operating system updates, etc.
  3. Leads collaboration with IT architects, data security, engineers, and other support partners with regard to the design and implementation of new technology solutions, cloud migration strategies and execution, and troubleshooting and correcting technical issues and security incidents.
  4. Plays a key role in developing strategies for achieving the goals contained within the FCPS Strategic Plan and is accountable for outcomes.
  5. Assists with the planning of policy and short- and long-term objectives.
  6. Directs the development of long-range program plans, budgets, staffing profiles, human resources management, and related strategies and procedures that ensure the program mission is accomplished.
  7. Oversees and participates in preparation of the operating budget for the department and office and establishes controls over expenditures by allocating and assigning resources, both physical and human.
  8. Manages risk and matters of compliance related to local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and mandates.
  9. Facilitates meetings with community groups or employee associations.
  10. Prepares and/or coordinates written and oral reports and analyses to identify and interpret trends or patterns in data sets that communicate key insights.
  11. Represents the program, department, or Division in negotiating or facilitating resolution regarding matters of significance.
  12. Presents information and recommendations to senior management team or School Board.
  13. Develops and maintains working relationships with school, county, and outside agency personnel.
  14. Complies with established enterprise standards, current standards, procedures, and documentation; follows change management processes when initiating system changes.
  15. Provides outage and crisis management leadership and direction to support partners, IT management, vendors, and stakeholders.
  16. Negotiates and/or manages contracts, grants, partnership agreements and/or memoranda of understanding/agreements.
  17. Oversees the work of vendors or contractors, and service warranties
  18. Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
