Senior Platform Engineer, Growth Product Engineering

## About the role Samsara is looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join Growth Product & Engineering and own the platform that growth and marketing teams build on. You will address foundational gaps in infrastructure, security, and tooling while helping scale AI-assisted and agentic development safely. This is a hands-on role involving hardened CI/CD pipelines, migration of hand-built AWS resources to Infrastructure as Code, separation of production and pre-production workloads, centralized logging and monitoring, and self-service infrastructure. The stack includes Python, JavaScript (Vue), AWS, and GitHub Actions, with a growing surface of serverless, container-based services, and internally hosted applications. This role is open to candidates residing in the United States except the San Francisco Bay Metro Area, NYC Metro Area, and Washington, D.C. Metro Area. ## You should apply if - You want to impact industries that run the world and help improve safety, efficiency, sustainability, and worker safety. - You are energized by leverage and prefer building systems that prevent entire classes of problems. - You are the architect of your own career and want opportunities for rapid career development. - You want to work with a high-calibre team that supports and challenges you. ## In this role, you will - Own the CI/CD foundation for AI-assisted and agentic development, including hardened pipeline gates, automated testing, mutation and end-to-end tests, security scans, performance and cost regression guards, progressive delivery, and automated rollback. - Provide engineers with ephemeral per-PR environments and local tooling, including isolated databases seeded from realistic data. - Build centralized logging, monitoring, and alerting across the AWS footprint. - Lead security engineering by remediating vulnerabilities, establishing secure-by-default patterns, and automating code scanning, secrets management, and access control. - Migrate hand-built AWS resources to Infrastructure as Code, separate production and pre-production accounts, and establish tested backup and disaster recovery with clear RTO and RPO targets. - Build paved-path, self-service tooling and standardized blue/green, canary, and feature-flag releases. - Mentor engineers and role model Samsara's cultural principles. - Build and operate AI agents for SRE work, including automated alert triage, incident investigation, and safe self-healing remediation. - Contribute to backend development for customer-facing products and ship product features alongside platform work. - Champion and embed Samsara's cultural principles: Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, and Win as a Team. ## Minimum requirements - 6+ years of professional software, infrastructure, DevOps, platform, or site reliability engineering experience. - Hands-on AWS production experience with IAM, Lambda, networking, and multi-account organizations, plus Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation. - Experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines with automated testing, static analysis, coverage enforcement, deployment gates, and safe release patterns such as blue/green, canary, feature flags, and reliable rollbacks. - Strong Python development experience across services, tooling, and automation; familiarity with JavaScript-based stacks; and experience with Docker and ECS, EKS, or Kubernetes. - Experience with cloud security posture management or tools such as Wiz, Semgrep, and Snyk. - Experience building observability into distributed systems, including centralized logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting. - A track record of designing, building, and operating production infrastructure end to end with measurable gains in reliability, security, or developer velocity, using AI-powered development tools in a daily workflow. - Experience building and shipping customer-facing product features, not only internal platform and infrastructure work. ## Ideal candidate - Experience building guardrails that make AI- or agent-generated code safe to merge and deploy. - A developer experience or platform engineering background with adopted paved-path tooling. - Familiarity with cloud cost management, performance regression detection, capacity planning, and disaster recovery plans measured against RTO and RPO targets. - Exposure to localization pipelines and GTM or data tooling such as Salesforce, Contentful, Hightouch, or Databricks, plus an experiment-driven approach to emerging AI technologies. - Experience with Service Level Indicators and Service Level Objectives. - Experience owning and improving operational review processes.
