What You'll Do
The process technical specialist provides technical support in the Process Engineering organization including the development and implementation of new processes and maintenance and changes on existing processes. This position will primarily support sheet metal fabrication operations with secondary responsibilities involving machining and other manufacturing operations. These operations include cutting, forming, heat-treating, welding, and more.
Responsibilities:
- Develop methods for using resources such as skilled manufacturing craft, production equipment, and tooling to fabricate products for Y-12 mission requirements.
- Ensure proper sequence of operation and prepare manufacturing plans and instructions for processes and equipment.
- Solve manufacturing processing problems of significant and/or far-reaching complexity. Investigate sources of nonconforming or unexpected results, devise guidelines for data gathering, provide recommendations, and implement solutions based upon knowledge and manufacturing experience.
- Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement, increased process capabilities, and data driven decision making.
- Support process feasibility/scoping studies and equipment/facility/process upgrades
- Communicate status of established project/task goals, schedules, and funding.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Master's degree: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
Preferred Job Requirements
- 10+ years of direct experience with sheet metal fabrication (cutting, bending, forming, welding, etc.)
- Experience with manufacturing support skills such as 3D modelling, continuous improvement, statistical process control, etc.
- Able to interpret mechanical drawings and dimensional inspection results per GD&T/ASME Y14.5
- Good oral and written communication skills. Able to work in a production environment and communicate clearly with skilled craft, technical personnel, and management.
- Capable of performing technical assignments requiring originality and exhibit independence in utilizing technical knowledge and experience
