Site Reliability Engineer Network Intern - OneIT - Austin, TX

IBM is seeking an intern to support enterprise IT infrastructure and develop practical experience in Site Reliability Engineering and Network Reliability Engineering. The role involves maintaining systems and network devices, monitoring performance, assisting with automation and incident response, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and documenting operational procedures and reliability metrics.

What you'll do:

• Assist in maintaining and supporting enterprise IT systems including servers, virtual machines, and cloud environments
• Monitor system performance and help identify reliability issues
• Support automation efforts for routine administrative tasks using scripting tools
• Participate in incident response and post-incident analysis
• Help document system configurations, operational procedures, and reliability metrics
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on infrastructure and service delivery
• Assist in configuring, monitoring, and maintaining network devices including routers, switches, and firewalls
• Support day-to-day network operations, troubleshooting connectivity issues and escalating as needed
• Participate in network performance analysis and reporting
• Learn and apply automation techniques to reduce manual tasks and improve reliability
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on network upgrades, deployments, and incident response
• Document network configurations, procedures, and reliability metrics

What they're looking for:

• Bachelor's Degree
• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• Strong understanding of IP (internet protocol) and other network administration protocols
• Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Juniper/Arista/Cisco network General education
• Ability to conduct research into IT networking issues and products as required
• Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment
• Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective communication and collaboration abilities
• Exposure to cloud platforms (IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure)
• Interest in SRE principles such as automation, observability, and fault tolerance
