Position Summary

This is skilled manual work at the journeyman level in several of the skilled trades. An individual in this class has general construction and maintenance responsibilities for a large facility(s). Duties involve performing the actual work and in some cases, supervising unskilled or semi-skilled workers in the tasks. Work is performed under general supervision.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to use standard hand tools and equipment common to the mechanical and structural trades.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards of: mechanical and electrical building equipment; tools and equipment associated with maintenance activities
  • Ability to relate well with others (customers, co-workers, supervisors, etc…)
  • Ability to learn and use basic computer skills.
  • Ability to perform routine troubleshooting of MEP systems.
  • Ability to perform administrative functions related to building systems maintenance (complete forms, record filing, etc..)

Physical Demands

Standard requirements of the trades:

  • Stand, walk, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, work from standard and/or extended ladders.
  • Lift up to 75 lbs during a normal work shift.
