Software Engineer (Embedded Systems & Vulnerability Research)

Battelle is seeking Software Engineers to support embedded security solutions for government and industrial customers. The role focuses on designing, developing, testing, analyzing, and securing embedded and edge computing software, with responsibilities spanning vulnerability research, reverse engineering, debugging, and secure software practices.

What you'll do:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications for embedded and edge computing platforms
• Develop software primarily using C, C++, and Python
• Analyze firmware, operating systems, and embedded applications
• Support vulnerability research efforts including identification, analysis, reproduction, and documentation of software weaknesses
• Develop tools, automation scripts, and proof-of-concept capabilities
• Perform debugging and root cause analysis of software and system issues
• Support integration and testing activities across hardware and software environments
• Contribute to secure software development practices and code reviews
• Document technical findings, software designs, and engineering processes
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering, cybersecurity, and research teams

What they're looking for:

• * Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field; or equivalent experience
• * Strong programming experience in: C, C++, Python
• * Experience with: + Embedded systems development + Linux-based operating systems + Software debugging and troubleshooting + Source code management tools (Git) + Software testing methodologies
• * Strong curiosity about how systems work internally
• * Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance; U.S. citizenship required
