Software Engineer I

Alfa Insurance is an insurance carrier offering auto, home, life, farm, and business insurance products. The Software Engineer I will gather and document requirements, design and develop software applications, conduct testing, monitor production systems, troubleshoot issues, and communicate project status.

What you'll do:

• Gather, document, understand, and articulate functional, non-functional and business requirements that are already defined
• Design and develop software applications and related components both independently and as part of a team
• Perform unit, regression, and integration testing for application changes to ensure high quality
• Track and monitor production systems for issue identification and prevention across multiple environments and operating platforms
• Research and troubleshoot issues across different functional teams to rectify system problems in a timely manner
• Communicate status updates with team members and leaders to ensure timely completion of deliverables
• Become familiar with Alfa’s interconnected technology framework and systems to understand impact of software changes

What they're looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related area of study related to Computer Science or Mathematics is required
• Competent communication skills, including clear and timely communication on business issues and assignments with peers, management, and product owners
• Ability to quickly learn and comprehend insurance-related topics and relate that knowledge to the development process
• Two years of programming experience preferred
• Experience with Oracle PeopleSoft or Workday preferred
