Software Engineer I

Onshore develops software and AI-powered solutions to identify, document, and defend U.S. R&D tax credits and deductions. The Software Engineer I will ship production code across schemas, services, user interfaces, tests, and deployments while building agent pipelines, data ingestion, operator tooling, and tax computation systems. The role emphasizes correctness, ownership, and growth through close collaboration with a senior engineer.

What you'll do:

• Ship production code in your first week and own real surface area in your first quarter: schema, service, UI, tests, deploy
• Work daily with a senior engineer who reviews your code and is accountable for your growth, in the same codebase you work in
• Write the evals for what you ship; correctness is the product here, and every engineer owns it
• Build across real surfaces: agent pipelines, data ingestion, operator tooling, and tax computation
• Learn a domain with genuine depth, where the engineers who read the source material win

What they're looking for:

• Strong fundamentals in a typed language. We work in TypeScript; deep experience elsewhere with real interest in switching counts
• You've built and shipped software: professionally, in internships, or on your own. Standout project work counts as much as a resume line
• Evidence you build things without being told to: side projects, open source, a tool you made because something annoyed you
• High ownership: comfortable with ambiguity and willing to ask the question that unblocks you
• Clear, precise communication on technical topics, in writing and in person
• Able to work in person at our New York City office
• Experience with LLM APIs, agents, or structured extraction, even in personal projects
• Exposure to AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure
• Interest in domains with real depth: tax, finance, law, or anything spec-heavy
