Software Engineer Intern

PayPal is a global payments company that provides secure commerce and money-transfer solutions through products including PayPal, Braintree, Venmo, and Paydiant. The Software Engineer Intern will design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain scalable front-end and back-end software while collaborating with engineering and cross-functional teams. The role also involves database optimization, code and design reviews, and triaging production issues.

What you'll do:

• Develop, test, debug, and maintain scalable front-end and back-end software using technologies such as Java, Python, Node.js, React, SQL, and REST APIs
• Write clean, maintainable code; develop and optimize databases; and ensure data integrity and system performance
• Follow software development life cycle (SDLC) processes, internal standards, coding conventions, and best practices while making technical decisions with appropriate guidance
• Collaborate with managers, project leads, peers, and cross-functional partners—including design, product, and other business teams—to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions
• Participate in code and design reviews and contribute to improving coding standards and development practices

What they're looking for:

• Experience with at least one programming language, such as Java, Python, C++, JavaScript, or similar
• Familiarity with software development concepts, including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and debugging
• Experience developing projects through coursework, internships, research, or personal projects
• Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and analytical skills
• This is a Summer 2027 Internship program. Spring and Fall 2027 internships are not available
• Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field at an accredited college or university
• Must be returning to school in Fall 2027
