About this role
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for someone to join its Communications & Cyber Security Team as a Software Engineer Intern. The ideal candidate can work part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer in Boise, Idaho. This position offers hands-on experience with industry professionals.
## Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support SEL’s software development process.
- Verify that software meets requirements.
- Implement firmware/software design.
- Provide support to engineering staff as needed.
- Follow engineering quality assurance procedures.
- Continuously identify, measure, and improve processes.
- Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
- Understand. Create. Simplify.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
## Required Qualifications
- Current student pursuing a degree in computer science or equivalent, with at least one year of technical coursework completed.
- Programming experience in C#, C++, Java, or an equivalent object-oriented programming language.
- Ability to execute and document defined testing procedures.
- Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
- Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Background check results satisfactory to SEL.
- Negative drug test result(s).
## Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Bash.
- Practical knowledge of developing Linux daemons.
- Knowledge of SQL, database, and networking concepts.
- Experience using revision control and source code management systems.
## Location
Boise, Idaho. The position is located in Boise, on the Boise River in southwestern Idaho.
## Pay
Pay range: $24.25–$33.00. Intern pay is determined by the internship role and the student’s year in school.
