About this role
Mission Technologies, a division of HII, develops national security and defense technologies. The Software Engineering Intern will support the Minotaur mission management system by enhancing sensor data processing capabilities and building operational software features. The role includes work across the software development lifecycle and potential projects involving machine learning, AI, signal processing, video analytics, graphical interfaces, and simulation workflows.
What you'll do:
- Build and refine new features for operational software
- Contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle—design, implementation, integration, and testing
- Collaborate closely with engineers and other interns on meaningful, real‑world projects
- Developing solutions to high‑priority operational challenges using machine learning, AI, signal processing, and video analytics
- Designing intuitive, user‑focused graphical interfaces
- Improving and automating simulation, test, and verification workflows
- Creating proof‑of‑concept prototypes for emerging technologies and future capabilities
What they're looking for:
- This internship is designed for rising college juniors pursuing a bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- To be eligible, you must be currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline and qualify for these specific levels:
- High school diploma or equivalent & must be working towards a bachelor's degree with more than 60% of the required credits completed
- High school diploma or equivalent & must be working towards a bachelor's degree with more than 40% - 60% of the required credits completed
- High school diploma or equivalent & must be working towards a bachelor's degree with more than 20% - 40% of the required credits completed
- Experience with software development in a Linux environment
- Proficiency in languages such as C++, Java, or JavaScript
- Strong communication skills and critical‑thinking abilities
- A proactive, hardworking mindset and a strong desire to learn
- Job performance will normally require only minor lifting and carrying of boxes of records or equipment
