About this role
Sigma’s Early Career Program is the launchpad for the next generation of engineers and innovators. Interns work on production features and learn efficient engineering for large, scalable systems, collaborating with engineers, product leaders, and designers across the organization.
## About the role
Sigma’s Engineering organization designs, implements, and scales technical solutions that power its core product and help users make data-driven business decisions. As a Software Engineering Intern, you will experiment, prototype, and implement features that help users analyze and gather insights from their data. You will partner with an engineering mentor and collaborate across the company to determine solutions to technical challenges. You will take a project from ideation through implementation, iterate based on feedback, deploy features, and use customer metrics to inform development decisions.
## During your internship
- Learn to build production software and understand how large single-page applications are built and extended with the user experience in mind.
- Experience how backend systems scale to handle multiple customers and billions of data points while keeping user information secure.
- Learn to own a development project from beginning to end.
- Develop automated unit tests to achieve relevant code coverage and work with product owners and technical publications teams to document your work.
- Partner with other engineers, product managers, and designers.
- Design and deliver innovative solutions that improve the Sigma user experience by implementing new product features.
- Find ways to optimize the performance of one or more product components.
## What we’re looking for
- Pursuing at least a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
- Intermediate to advanced grasp of operating systems, data structures, and algorithms, plus at least one modern programming language such as Java, Python, or JavaScript.
- Excited to learn and build complex user interfaces, data visualizations, or backend systems.
- Solid project management and communication abilities; able to find the right resources and own tasks end to end with minimal supervision.
- Drive and desire to navigate unknowns.
- Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment.
- Able to commit 40 hours per week for 12 weeks in person in the San Francisco, CA or New York, NY office.
- Ready to start full-time work by January 2028 or June 2028 (preferred).
## Internship program qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a U.S. university undergraduate or graduate degree program, with a graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Able to intern from June 2027 through August or early September 2027; dates are flexible.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States during the Summer 2027 program. Visa sponsorship is not available for internship positions.
- Able to work in person in the San Francisco, CA or New York, NY office for the duration of the internship. Relocation assistance in the form of a relocation bonus will be provided to students who need to relocate for the summer.
## Compensation
Interns receive an hourly rate of $50.00 and a relocation bonus where applicable.
