About this role
Harvey is transforming legal and professional services through agentic AI, an enterprise-grade platform, and deep domain expertise. The Software Engineer, New Grad will build secure, high-performance AI-powered systems and contribute production code across retrieval, document intelligence, workflow automation, and other engineering areas. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, evaluating LLMs and AI systems, and developing reliable products alongside experienced engineers.
What you'll do:
- Design, implement, and ship production-level code across the stack while maintaining high quality, reliability, and security standards. You'll use AI-assisted development tools daily, and you’ll own the quality of everything you ship—AI-generated or not
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including AI Research, Legal Engineering, Product, and Design to translate problem statements into compelling product experiences
- Collaborate with your team through code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering best-practice development alongside senior and staff engineers
- Experiment with and evaluate cutting-edge LLMs and AI systems, contributing to how Harvey's platform evolves
- Depending on your team, you could work on retrieval over large document collections, interfaces for collaborating with AI systems, multi-region compute infrastructure, enterprise agents, or secure systems for sensitive client data
What they're looking for:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, graduated either in Winter 2026 - Spring 2027
- Previous internship experience is required
- Strong proficiency in one or more languages (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, or similar) and solid general computer science knowledge
- You've built something start to finish in coursework, a personal project, or a past internship
- You can explain a complex technical idea in plain language, whether or not the person you're explaining it to is an engineer
- You look for the simplest solution that works, and you know when added complexity is worth it
- You proactively seek out feedback, act on it, and keep pushing after the assignment is technically complete
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and curious about building LLMs into your own coding workflow
- Past internship experience at an early-stage startup is a plus
Benefits:
- Relocation support is available.
