Software Engineering & AI Intern

Drake & Associates is a growing financial planning firm investing in technology, automation, and AI to improve internal operations and client service. The Software Engineering & AI Intern will build and support internal applications, cloud infrastructure, integrations, and AI-assisted solutions while gaining practical experience in software development within a regulated financial services environment.

What you'll do:

• Depending on your experience and interests, you may:
• Assist with building and maintaining cloud infrastructure within Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Develop and test features for internal web applications using AI-assisted development tools
• Translate business needs into clear technical requirements and use AI tools to help develop solutions
• Review, test, troubleshoot, and improve AI-generated code
• Assist with API integrations and automation between internal systems, including Salesforce
• Support application testing, validation, and new technology rollouts
• Work with databases, containerized applications, and deployment processes
• Assist with Google Workspace migration and technology implementation projects
• Create technical documentation, runbooks, build guides, and user resources
• Support security testing and remediation efforts
• Contribute to special technology and AI projects as the firm's internal platform continues to grow

What they're looking for:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; rising junior, senior, or graduate student preferred
• Proficiency in at least one server-side programming language, preferably Python or JavaScript/Node.js
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases
• Comfortable using Git, command-line tools, and basic shell scripts
• Understanding of core web concepts such as HTTP, REST APIs, authentication, and environment configuration
• Experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as Gemini, Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar
• Ability to critically review, test, and troubleshoot AI-generated code rather than relying on generated output alone
• Strong written communication and documentation skills
• Detail-oriented with sound judgment when working with sensitive or confidential information
• Eager to learn, solve problems, and contribute in a fast-paced environment
• Experience building a meaningful project using AI-assisted development tools
• Exposure to Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Microsoft Azure
