Software Engineering Intern

Emergent builds autonomous coding agents that generate, test, and deploy production applications from plain-language intent. The Software Engineering Intern will build and ship backend and production systems, collaborate across infrastructure, AI/ML, and product teams, and develop expertise in distributed systems, scalability, reliability, and performance.

What you'll do:

• Build and maintain backend services using Python and/or Go
• Work closely with experienced engineers across infrastructure, AI/ML, and product teams
• Contribute to real production systems that serve users globally
• Learn and apply principles of distributed systems, scalability, reliability, and performance
• Participate in code reviews, debugging, testing, and deployment workflows
• Take ownership of meaningful projects from design to production

• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Go, or Java
• Hands-on experience through internships, academic projects, hackathons, or open-source contributions

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment
• Exposure to cloud platforms, Docker, Kubernetes, or distributed systems
• Experience building backend applications, APIs, or developer tools
• Contributions to open-source projects or strong personal engineering projects
• Interest in AI, developer infrastructure, or large-scale systems
