Software Engineering Intern - Model Risk

The Model Risk Oversight (MRO) team is part of the corporate risk management department at Schwab. It reviews models used by the firm and measures the individual and aggregate model risks – the risks of misusing models and the risks of relying on erroneous model outputs. Within the MRO team, there are 3 core business tracks: - Model Validation - Software Engineering ## What you have Software Engineering Intern: In this role, you will learn what it takes to develop software technologies that revolutionize model risk management. You’ll help maintain and enhance sophisticated model risk software solutions and create tools for data visualization. ## Required Qualifications - Enrolled in a PhD or master’s degree in a quantitative or technical field and able to start full-time employment between August 2027 and September 2028. - Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship. - Ability to work full time and be on-site at the Schwab Southlake location during the 9-week program from June 7 to August 8, 2026. - Working knowledge of object-oriented programming with C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, database design, ETL, and related technologies. - Coursework or experience using AI tools to create software applications, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or Codex. - Coursework or experience building solutions is strongly preferred. - Resourcefulness and flexibility, with an ability to work through cross-functional partnerships and collaborate to achieve a common purpose. ## Preferred Qualifications - Interest in model risk management, model validation, governance, or quantitative analytics. - Experience applying analytical, statistical, or modeling techniques through coursework, research, internships, or projects. - Experience documenting analysis, testing results, or technical findings for review by others.
