About this role
The Space Management Team, known as Shelf Edge at H-E-B, coordinates with Merchandising, Pricing, and Advertising, and collaborates with Procurement, Forecast and Replenishment, suppliers, and brokers. Shelf Edge works closely with retail Store operations to plan and execute all in-Store space management assortment / merchandising changes, price image, tags, and marketing programs.
As a Manager I Space Planning & Merchandising, you'll lead and develop a team of Analysts who each support a business area of responsibility. You'll monitor and verify that plan-o-grams accurately reflect Business Development Manager (BDM) / Buyer strategies and are completed in a timely manner. You'll collaborate and build strong business relationships with stakeholders, including BDMs / buyers, Forecast and Replenishment, Stores, and the vendor community.

What is the work?
Leadership / Management:
- Spends the majority of time making employment-related and business decisions, or effectively recommending such decisions (including department-related strategies, hiring, promoting, disciplining, rewarding) or otherwise engaging in resolving Partner-related matters
- Focuses on Partner development and goal-setting
- Establishes expectations related to timeline compliance, consistency, accuracy, and efficiency of tasks / assignments; delivers timely and accurate direction, communication, and feedback
- Mentors / develops Partners; understands others' individual strengths and areas of opportunity to help facilitate personal and professional development
- Ensures timeline-driven tasks and responsibilities are accomplished
- Establishes productive working relationships with Procurement, Forecast and Replenishment, and Store Partners; communicates and influences at all levels of management
- Applies knowledge of merchandising-related principles, practices, and procedures related to complete difficult assignments
Project Management / Continuous Improvement:
- Manages complex merchandising special projects and new initiatives from conception to implementation
- Identifies / implements ways to streamline, standardize, and institutionalize processes
- Develops / implements merchandising processes and tools that focus on H-E-B business plans
- Continuously monitors processes and systems to identify potential issues, training gaps, or opportunities for improvement
Strategy:
- Provides input, analysis, and recommendations regarding trends and plans to ensure sales and gross profits meet goals; proactively identifies / resolves issues
- Provides input to develop and plan merchandising programs to increase sales
What is your background?
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, finance, information systems, or a related field, or comparable experience
- 5+ years of experience in retail space planning / execution (e.g., store operations, merchandising, space management, pricing, procurement, software applications, communications, or signs and tags)
- 5+ years of experience in consumer-packaged goods sales
- 3+ years of experience leading, managing, and developing teams
- Experience analyzing complex sales and profitability at a macro or micro level
- Experience working in JDA Space Planning software or comparable plan-o-gram software
- Experience in inventory management systems
- Experience reviewing Business Intelligence systems and syndicated data reports to make business decisions
- Experience implementing comprehensive merchandising programs
