Spring 2027 Software Engineering & Innovation Intern

U.S. Hunger is seeking a Software Engineering & Innovation Intern to support strategic technology exploration, prototyping, and long-term systems planning. The role focuses on backend development, AWS cloud-native solutions, artificial intelligence research, proof-of-concept projects, system design support, and technical documentation alongside the CTO.

What you'll do:

• Research and summarize emerging AWS services, developer tools, and architectural frameworks
• Explore AI, AGI, and machine learning capabilities, with a focus on integration potential using Python and C#
• Conduct vendor comparisons and write ups for tools and platforms under CTO consideration
• Build lightweight prototypes and experimental features that explore new solution pathways
• Assist in modeling cloud-native solutions using AWS Lambda, Step Functions, Bedrock, and related services
• Participate in API development and data integration experiments using RESTful architectures
• Support the maintenance and experimentation of backend services using C#/.NET on Windows Server and AWS EC2
• Develop or refactor backend modules to test architectural ideas or system migrations
• Participate in early design work for future system components alongside the CTO
• Generate technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and internal briefs to aid in executive decision-making
• Track findings and help prepare presentation materials summarizing research or prototyping results

• Actively pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field
• Experience with or strong interest in backend development using C# and Python
• Eagerness to explore AI, automation, and modern cloud-native architecture
• Inquisitive, self-motivated, and comfortable navigating ambiguity in emerging tech landscapes
• Able to synthesize technical findings clearly in writing or visual formats
• Strong collaborator with good time management and attention to detail
• Work is primarily hybrid, with scheduled in-office presence in Longwood, FL
• Regular computer use requires screen time and keyboard work
• Familiarity with REST APIs, cloud services, or AWS basics preferred
