What you’ll be doing...


The Virtual Network Operations and Engineering in Verizon manages business critical VoLTE and IMS cloud platforms that provide 4G, and 5G services to Verizon customers. You will function as an Operations engineer providing support to core network applications that include the Subscriber Profile Controller (SPC), Identity Management Servers (IdMS), the VoLTE Media Tones & Conferencing (dMRF), the Media Resource Functions Controller (MRFC),  the One Talk Network Platform, the Web Gateway (WGW) and the Location Based Services (LBS).

As part of this team, you will play a meaningful role in our network transformation through building a unified network across all lines of business and maintaining the technology that keeps millions of our customers connected.

  • Performing expert level troubleshooting and debugging of both network and application system issues.
  • Providing network technical assistance to external teams by communicating technical details to customer service centers, technical support organizations, and executive management teams during network events and major outages.
  • Developing resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity.
  • Focusing on high availability, resiliency, security, efficiency, and operational supportability while meeting or exceeding the project schedule.
  • Exercising judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining results.
  • Accountable for the project results, summarizing the project status and documentation.
  • Thinking critically and making technical and business decisions that drive progress forward while putting customer uptime first.
  • There will be work required to be performed during the maintenance window hours between 0000-0600 and in some cases 24/7 availability role. Flexibility in scheduling is a requirement. 
  • Perform expert level troubleshooting and debugging of both network and application system issues.
  • Call flow debugging expertise utilizing Wireshark and NetScout applications is required.
  • Operational experience and expert level demonstrating routine maintenance and automation (Linux/OpenStack/Application Deployment/Programming).  
  • Work closely with equipment vendor SMEs to deploy feature requirements and implementation plans while working collaboratively with cross-functional internal teams.

What we’re looking for...


You must be detail-oriented, think critically to solve issues in real-time and focus on maximizing customer uptime and minimizing impact.


You’ll need to have:

  • Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience. 
  • Three or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science or Electronics.
  • Experience in scripting languages and automation tools.
  • Experience with 4G/5G Core.
  • Experience with managing high expectations from multiple directions with the proven ability to focus team members on objectives
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • VoLTE/IMS application design and deployment experience in a cellular or telecommunications environment. 
  • Detailed knowledge and direct experience with Diameter/RADIUS/TCP/IP, BGP, and authentication protocols (Entitlement, EAP-AKA, and REST API).
  • Experience with Layer 1 and 2 network technologies, data base administration, IPv6, and Verizon 4G/5G architecture and call flow process.
  • Experience with data center switching and routing design, Firewall/Load balancing technology and systems.
  • Network management experience, including fault and performance management systems (SevOne, IrisView, Netscout, ULM, IBM NetCool). 
  • Knowledge of OpenStack, Linux, and virtualization technologies. 
  • Experience with scripting and automation of tasks (bash, Perl, Python, Ansible).
  • Understanding of Verizon MTAS Provisioning and entitlements
  • Hands-on experience of virtualized implementation (SDN/NFV) of Wireless network nodes in OpenStack and new virtualization technology.
  • Strong knowledge of the IMS Core architecture and call flows.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.

The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $87,000.00 - $157,000.00.
