About this role

American Eagle Outfitters Inc. is a global specialty retailer with a portfolio of apparel brands and e-commerce operations. The company is seeking a Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, audit support, internal controls, and process improvement initiatives.

What you'll do:

  • Actively participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting
  • Prepare, analyze, and post both routine recurring and complex non-recurring journal entries
  • Conduct monthly general ledger account reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies proactively
  • Review financial transactions and account balances to verify proper revenue and expense recognition in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepare comprehensive schedules and supporting documentation for annual external audits and periodic financial reviews
  • Assist in maintaining and documenting compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) internal control standards
  • Support the delivery of key management reports, performance metrics, and financial analysis
  • Collaborate on cross-functional accounting projects and software automation initiatives to optimize workflow efficiency
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and complete special assignments as requested by leadership

What they're looking for:

  • **Bachelor's Degree:** Accounting or Finance required
  • **Experience:** 1–3 years of hands-on experience in corporate accounting or public accounting
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables) and Google Workspace
  • High attention to detail with strong quantitative problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet strict deadlines, and handle competing priorities seamlessly
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of working effectively across cross-functional teams
  • Self-motivated and proactive approach to learning and driving projects to completion
  • **Certification:** CPA (or actively pursuing CPA track) preferred
  • **ERP & Financial Systems:** Hands-on experience with Lawson, Oracle, or comparable Enterprise ERP systems preferred
  • **Close Management Tools:** Prior experience with Cadency (or similar reconciliation and journal entry software) preferred
