Staff Accountant

Palomar is a rapidly growing and innovative insurer focused on providing specialty insurance to residential and commercial customers. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for journal entry preparation, general ledger reconciliations, financial reporting, audit support, and analytical review of financial results.

What you'll do:

• Support the monthly close process by preparing and posting journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and performing P&L trend analyses across assigned products
• Research and analyze variances between actual financial results and forecasts, identifying key drivers and trends
• Coordinate with external partners and brokers to review monthly bordereaux reports and settlement statements
• Partner with internal and external auditors to ensure compliance with financial reporting and audit requirements
• Identify and recommend enhancements to accounting systems, processes, and controls to improve operational efficiency and accuracy
• Collaborate cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve system and process challenges
• Assist with special projects, ad hoc analyses, and other responsibilities as assigned

What they're looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office- Excel (Pivot Tables, Lookups, Formulas), Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task and be a self-starter in a fast-paced environment with demanding internal and external deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work on-site 3x/week
• 1-2+ years' experience - insurance industry preferred
