About this role
LMI is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to build mission applications for a U.S. Army enterprise data platform. This engineer will own user-facing capabilities from architecture through production delivery and help transition required functionality from legacy systems into the modern environment.
This is a hands-on role for an engineer who can work across the stack, make sound technical decisions, and turn complex user needs into reliable software.

Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and delivery of user-facing mission applications.
- Build responsive interfaces, backend services, APIs, and data integrations.
- Work directly with users and product stakeholders to understand workflows and refine capabilities.
- Transition required functionality from legacy applications without disrupting operational use.
- Establish strong practices for testing, code review, security, CI/CD, and production operations.
- Diagnose complex application and integration issues across the stack.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to technical decisions across the broader platform.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Eight or more years of professional software-engineering experience.
- Strong experience with modern front-end development and at least one backend programming language.
- Experience designing APIs, application services, and data-intensive systems.
- Strong software-engineering fundamentals, including automated testing, source control, CI/CD, and production monitoring.
- Demonstrated ownership of a major software capability from architecture through deployment.
- Experience supporting a Department of Defense customer.
- Active Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting the U.S. Army.
- Experience with React, TypeScript, Python, Java, Go, or Node.js.
- Familiarity with AWS, Palantir Foundry, Army Vantage, or comparable platforms.
- Experience modernizing or replacing legacy applications.
- Experience building software in secure or regulated environments.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted software-development tools.
Target salary range: $111,000 - 190,000
