About the Job

 

The Office of the Chancellor is looking for a student ambassador. This individual will work independently to create content at events or on campus for the campus community. Having your own equipment is not necessary.

The successful candidate will possess creativity, knowledge of social media trends, and understanding of best practices. The student should have strong communication skills and be open to constructive feedback. Must be reliable. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for filming content and taking photos. Some creative support as needed such as retouching photographs, file saving, social graphics and content editing. 
  • Engages directly with the Chancellor’s Office through participation in campus and community events, meetings, and activities with the Chancellor and Chancellor’s Office team.
  • Supports Chancellor’s Office communications and social media by developing creative, authentic, and student-centered content that highlights UMD stories, initiatives, events, and the student experience across social media and other communication platforms.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with student organizations and campus communities to gather student perspectives, identify topics and issues of interest to students, and share relevant insights with the Chancellor’s Office.
  • Supports strategic initiatives and special projects of the Chancellor’s Office by providing a student perspective, identifying opportunities for student engagement, and assisting with project coordination, outreach, and implementation.
  • Brings a student perspective and entrepreneurial spirit to communications, storytelling, social media, speechwriting, podcasting, and emerging opportunities to engage the UMD community. 
  • Identifies and captures meaningful moments, stories, and ideas from the Chancellor’s activities and translates them into engaging, accessible, and student-facing content.
  • Provides administrative and project support to the Chancellor’s Office as needed, including assistance with events, communications, outreach, research, special projects, and other office activities.

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:
Must be a current UMD student with or without work study.
Students must be enrolled for a minimum of six credits.
Work hours will vary and be based on department needs.

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of all social media platforms with an emphasis in TikTok and Instagram. Demonstrated knowledge of filming and editing videos. Comfortability on camera. Be willing to work occasional nights and weekends as needed.

The Office of the Chancellor provides leadership, advocacy and support while furthering campus priorities such as the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of the Strategic Plan and ensuring a diverse, welcoming and inclusive campus community through campus climate work. The Chancellor's Unit consists of the Office of the Chancellor, Intercollegiate Athletics, Glensheen, and the University Marketing & Public Relations department.

Pay and Benefits

 

Pay Range: $15.25 per hour

Student workers are eligible to participate in the Student Health Benefit Plan, if they maintain 6 or more eligible course credits within a given semester. The same applies for Undergraduate Students, Graduate Assistants, Residents, Fellows and Interns.
