Student Posting: Research Support Peer-Mentor

This student position in the UMD Kathryn A. Martin Library provides research support for Honors students, students participating in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, students generally looking for research help, and other UMD community library users. This service provides guidance and support on various aspects of the research process, including identifying faculty mentors, developing topics for class assignments, searching in databases, and evaluating information. Training is provided on an ongoing basis. This position fulfills the Leadership requirement of the Honors Program’s non-course experiences.

Schedule: Scheduled shifts will take place during the Library’s hours of operation. Training and consultations with Librarians will take place within the hours of 8am - 5pm, Monday-Friday.

Position Responsibilities:

• Participate in ongoing research support training and reflection
• Provide research support consultations to students working on research including Undergraduate Research Projects like UROP or URSA
• Manage incoming consultation requests including preparation and debriefing with support from a Librarian
• Staff regular drop-in hours and provide support for University Honors research requirements
• Record statistics and reflect on consultations
• Develop, plan, and implement workshops open to all students

Required Qualifications: 

• Ability to perform detailed work accurately
• Ability to follow established procedures with accuracy
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to communicate well in a public service capacity

• Must be enrolled in the UMD Honors program

   

Preferred qualification: 

• Have completed an undergraduate research project.

Pay Range: $15.75 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
