About this role
The University of New Mexico is a higher education institution serving students through its UNM-Taos campus. The Student Recruiter supports student recruitment, enrollment, retention, and financial aid needs by conducting outreach, representing UNM-Taos at recruitment events, and guiding students and families through the enrollment process. The role also provides financial aid support during peak periods, including counseling, FAFSA assistance, file review, and documentation support.
What you'll do:
- The Student Recruiter serves in a dual role within UNM-Taos Student Affairs, supporting the recruitment, enrollment, retention, and also financial aid needs of prospective and current students
- The position develops and carries out recruitment and outreach activities to increase enrollment at UNM-Taos
- This work focuses on meeting the unique needs of our community college students, including first-generation students, adult and returning learners, transfer students, dual credit students, and students from rural and underserved communities
- The Student Recruiter represents UNM-Taos at area high schools, college fairs, community events, and other recruitment activities
- The position also provides students and their families with individualized guidance as they navigate the college enrollment process
- Recruitment remains the primary responsibility of the position
- However, the employee is cross-trained to provide direct support in the Financial Aid Office, particularly during peak and high-volume periods
- This support may include financial aid counseling, FAFSA assistance, file review, documentation, eligibility requirements, and other financial aid functions
- By working collaboratively across Student Affairs, the position helps students move more smoothly from recruitment and admission to financial aid, advising, registration, and enrollment
- The dual-role structure also allows UNM-Taos to provide students with more consistent support throughout the enrollment process while increasing the Financial Aid Office’s capacity during critical processing periods
- Ultimately, the position helps remove barriers, strengthen enrollment efforts, and support students from their first contact with UNM-Taos through successful enrollment
What they're looking for:
- Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
- Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis
- Experience in student recruitment, admissions, financial aid, enrollment services, or a related student support field
- Experience working with diverse student populations, including first-generation college students, adult learners, and individuals from rural or underserved communities
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as needed to support student recruitment, community outreach, campus events, and other institutional activities
- Knowledge of financial aid programs, scholarship opportunities, and the FAFSA application process, or demonstrated ability to learn financial aid policies and procedures
- Experience planning and participating in recruitment events, community outreach activities, workshops, or informational presentations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively assist students, families, school personnel, and community partners
- Experience providing individualized guidance and support to students or clients, including assisting with applications, required documentation, and follow-up
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, particularly during peak enrollment and financial aid periods
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, student information systems, customer relationship management (CRM) software, or similar database applications
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments while maintaining confidentiality and providing excellent customer service
