Summer 2027 PhD AI Engineering Intern

AMD is a technology company advancing processors, artificial intelligence, and computing technologies. The PhD AI Engineering Intern will support AI-assisted engineering and compute optimization workflows by building and evaluating systems, connecting AI models with engineering tools, and analyzing experimental results. The role also involves collaborating with researchers and engineers, tracking experiments, benchmarking, and documenting technical work.

What you'll do:

• Support the development of AI-assisted workflows for engineering and compute optimization tasks
• Assist in building and evaluating systems that generate, test, benchmark, and measure candidate improvements
• Contribute to tools that connect AI models with compilers, profilers, benchmarking tools, and engineering workflows
• Support evaluation and validation efforts focused on correctness, performance, and reliability
• Assist with analyzing experimental results and identifying opportunities to improve AI models and optimization approaches
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers on AI-assisted software and hardware optimization projects
• Support experiment tracking, benchmarking, and reproducibility across AI engineering projects
• Document technical work, experimental results, and key learnings

What they're looking for:

• Must be currently enrolled in a **PhD** program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
• Programming experience in Python
• Coursework or hands-on experience in artificial intelligence, or computer systems
• Familiarity with PyTorch or similar machine learning frameworks
• Interest in AI agents, optimization, LLMs, or AI-assisted software development
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
