About this role
Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company, provides railroad products, services, and technologies. The Reliability Analyst Intern will gain practical experience by supporting test data collection and analysis, reliability modeling, management reporting, statistical problem solving, and reliability-based verification activities with product design engineers.
What you'll do:
- Complete assignments within a department or activity which utilizes the employee’s academic discipline
- Assist in test data collection and analysis to fulfill Closed Loop Corrective Action process
- Assist development of reliability mathematical models
- Maintain reports for management review
- Application of statistics to problem solving
- Work cooperatively and efficiently with other personnel
- Work with product design engineers to develop and implement reliability-based verification artifacts
- Adaptability and flexibility to work in a dynamic environment

- Pursuing an engineering college degree
- Statistical training
- Knowledge of standard Microsoft applications
- Medium level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
- Medium level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
- Strength – This is a traditional office setting and requires the occasional lifting of weight of 50lbs. Lifting boxes of paper
- Motion – This is a traditional office setting and requires the use of a computer, keyboard and other equipment. Employee will be sitting the majority of the day with occasional walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling and driving
- Vision/Hearing Requirements – Must be able to communicate with customers and coworkers and utilize all office equipment
- Strong interpersonal skills including working in a cross-functional team environment
- Understanding of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis
- Derive, validate and document failure rates, modes and effects at product level
- Experience with Closed Loop Corrective Action System for failure analysis and corrective action
