About this role
ID.me is a digital identity wallet that helps individuals securely prove their identity and log in across websites. The Software Development Engineer Intern will contribute to user-facing features, APIs, and platform improvements while collaborating with experienced engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
What you'll do:
- Design, build, and test software components under the guidance of more experienced engineers
- Contribute to our platform's evolution by developing API-first services used by internal and external teams
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and agile ceremonies to continuously grow your skills
- Write clear, maintainable, and well-documented code
- Help troubleshoot issues in development and production environments
- Learn best practices for software engineering, security, testing, and observability in a platform company, and collaborate with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to ship impactful features
What they're looking for:
- Graduating in 2028 or beyond
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or related quantitative field
- Demonstrable proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Go, Python, or Ruby), gained through coursework, internships, or personal projects
- Strong understanding of basic computer science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming
- Eagerness to learn and take feedback in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and client-server communication
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure through internships or schoolwork
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)
- Interest in platform engineering, API design, or building developer tools
- Exposure to applied AI/LLM development, such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt engineering, or function/tool-calling — from coursework, internships, hackathons, or personal projects
- Clear communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
