Those stories are part of what makes this such a special place to work. ## Job Overview The Consumer Insights: Customer & Digital Intelligence and Analytics Intern will support efforts to identify growth opportunities across Macy's businesses through customer, competitive, and category intelligence. This role will help transform complex data and insights into actionable business recommendations. Macy’s summer internship program provides interns with a hands-on and in-depth understanding of a core business function in retail. Interns have opportunities to directly impact the business as a key part of a team and by sharing new ideas. Macy’s interns experience everything our culture has to offer through exposure to senior leaders and networking opportunities. This 8-week internship program will be held in Macy’s New York, New York Corporate offices. ## What You Will Do - Analyze customer behavior, loyalty trends, acquisition, retention, and engagement metrics. - Monitor competitive performance, promotional activity, and industry trends to identify emerging opportunities and risks. - Develop category scorecards and performance summaries that highlight key drivers and business opportunities. - Conduct customer, market, and category research to support strategic decision-making. - Synthesize findings into executive-ready recommendations, presentations, scorecards, and business reviews. - Partner with cross-functional teams to support growth opportunity assessments and business planning initiatives. ## Skills You Will Need - Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills – Ability to interpret data, conduct analyses, and generate actionable insights to support business decisions. - Project Management & Organization – Capable of managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, prioritizing work, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. - Digital & Technical Proficiency – Familiarity with digital tools and platforms, including Adobe, Power BI, and marketing/CRM systems; ability to quickly learn new technologies. - Communication & Collaboration – Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively with cross-functional teams, senior leaders, and external partners. - Customer-Centric Mindset – Passion for enhancing the customer experience and driving engagement through loyalty, digital, and merchandising initiatives. - Creativity & Innovation – Able to contribute new ideas and solutions, supporting continuous improvement in marketing, digital strategy, and merchandising. - Market Awareness & Business Acumen – Understanding of retail trends, competitor activity, and business priorities to support strategic planning and execution. ## Qualifications and Competencies - Junior standing (rising senior at the time of the internship) pursuing a bachelor's degree with a strong academic record. - Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred. - All majors will be considered for this opportunity. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including storytelling, presentation, relationship-building, and influencing skills. - Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as reports and procedure manuals. - Strong retail math, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze sales, gross margin, inventory productivity, sell-through, and other key retail performance metrics; identify trends; and translate data into actionable business recommendations. - Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and data analysis techniques; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). - Basic understanding of financial performance metrics, profitability concepts, statistical analysis, and assortment planning. - Ability to independently organize and prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. - Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external business partners while managing multiple priorities. - Ability to run, interpret, and analyze reports using assigned systems and tools. - Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and relationship management skills. - Ability to streamline processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and drive business results. - Exhibits high standards, accountability, attention to detail, and a commitment to accuracy. - High aptitude with the ability to process information quickly and develop solutions to business challenges. - Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs. ## Physical Requirements - May require working with multiple computer screens and programs simultaneously for extended periods of time. - May involve reaching, stooping, kneeling or crouching. - Frequently lift/move up to 10 lbs. ## About Us This is a great time to join Macy’s!
