District Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties: Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure
the safety of the public as well as efficient highways.

This job is located in the District Five Administrative office in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date.
This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.

INTERVIEWS ARE ANTICIPATED TO BE CONDUCTED WITHIN TWO (2) WEEKS OF CLOSING DATE.

Why does the job exist?

 
The purpose of this position is to provide a high level of building maintenance and troubleshooting expertise to maintain and ensure appropriate level of operation for all HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems at the District Complex.  This position is also responsible for buildings and grounds maintenance and repair.

How does it get done?

 
The Incumbent will determine the severity of HVAC equipment problem, plumbing, or electrical needs.  Incumbent must be able to diagnose and repair small equipment as needed such as fan motors, small pump motors, as well as determine if equipment needs can be repaired or replaced.

Ideal Candidate

 
The Ideal Candidate will posses the following;

-Supervision of Employees
-Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing systems
-The ability to operate light to heavy-duty equipment to ensure buildings & grounds are operating in a safe/effecient manner.
-The ability to plan, schedule, and manage all activities for the buildings & grounds section
-Budget

Minimum Qualification

 
High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years construction experience to include familiarity with application of building codes and regulations, basic electrical, plumbing, ventilation, maintenance, and/or custodial operations; building trade experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required experience. Some positions may require any/all of the following:
NM Boiler Operator License (Journeyman Boiler Operator) (BO1, BO2)
HVAC Certification (MM-3)
Mechanical License (MM-98)
General Building License (GB-98).

Employment Requirements

 
Must posses and maintain a valid Driver's license.

Working Conditions

 
Work may be performed indoors and outdoors; lifting, climbing, walking; exposure to hazards such as boilers, dust, high noise levels, fumes and rodents. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
