The Sidewalk Program is a complaint driven unit which is responsible for responding to broken sidewalk, curb and pedestrian ramp complaints along with inspecting sidewalk where defects may exist and issuing violations where warranted. The Sidewalk Program oversees an annual budget of $46 million allocated for the construction of sidewalk adjacent to city-owned properties and 1, 2, and 3 family homes.

The Community Coordinator will serve within the Community Response team and will be responsible for responding to sidewalk, curb and pedestrian ramp complaints. The Community Coordinator will also lead Community Outreach for the Sidewalk Program. This includes preparing for public events such as DOT Summer Streets, Community Board meetings, among others. This role will require direct coordination with DOT Borough Commissioner Offices and will serve as a central liaison between Sidewalk Program and the public. The Community Coordinator will oversee outreach efforts, including the creation of new campaigns for community engagement, creating/updating content for the Sidewalk Program’s website and reviewing all mailing content to homeowners as needed. Other responsibilities will include liaising with other agencies and outside entities as needed. Sidewalk Program will also plan outreach in neighborhoods and commercial areas to educate property owners about the life cycle and maintenance of the sidewalk.

COMMUNITY COORDINATOR - 56058

Qualifications:

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
