The New Mexico Works (NMW) program, administered through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) initiative, supports low-income families with children in achieving economic self-sufficiency. NMW offers job preparation, training, and employment services that help participants transition from government assistance to unsubsidized employment. Due to Budget the pay rate for position will be $23.90

Why does the job exist?

The purpose of this position is to manage the overall delivery of the New Mexico Works program to participants calling into the Human Services Department Call Center, by facilitating access to an integrated network of education, training and employment programs to prevent or reduce poverty and assure low-income individuals participation in the lives of their communities.

How does it get done?

The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Career Operator position provides case management services to TANF participants by removing barriers, offering supportive services, and placement in employment, education, and training activities. This position is critical to the overall NM DWS and TANF mission to eliminate the dependency on public assistance.

Who are the customers?

NMDWS TANF Staff, TANF participants, Employers, Government agencies and Workforce Partners.

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate will have:

-Strong knowledge of federal and state TANF regulations
-Experience in outreach and client engagement
-Organized, self-motivated, and effective at managing time while working collaboratively within a team
-Ability to conduct employer outreach
-Compassionate and , patience in supporting participant
-Strong verbal and written communication skills

Minimum Qualification

High School diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years experience in customer service, administrative support, human resources, recruitment, placement, selection, compensation, benefits administration, labor relations, occupational analysis, processing personnel transactions, or eligibility determination in a public and/or social welfare program. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.

Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is mostly performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
