TDCJ - Inventory and Store Specialist V - Commissary Manager

Job Duties:

Duties include ensuring uninterrupted commissary operations at assigned facilities as directed, daily monitoring of inventory, ensuring proper stock rotation, conducting sales to incarcerated individuals and staff, assist and maintain security of inmates, and other duties as assigned.

• Experience in inventory control, commissary operations, or warehouse management, in a secure or regulated environment.

• Proficient in accurately receiving, storing, selling, delivering and reconciling merchandise while maintaining strict inventory accountability.

• Have a strong understanding or the ability to learn security protocols, compliance requirements, and chain-of-custody procedures within a correctional or controlled facility setting.

•  Skilled at organizing and prioritizing daily assignments to ensure all operational tasks are completed efficiently, accurately, and on schedule.

• Can communicate clearly and professionally with staff, vendors, and leadership, and can follow through on directives with minimal supervision.

• You are highly dependable, detail-oriented, and capable of quickly identifying and resolving operational or inventory discrepancies.

• You can work in a structured environment where accuracy, consistency, and adherence to policy are essential to success.

• You bring advanced commissary and inventory management experience and are prepared to function as a lead point of contact for daily unit operations.

• You have demonstrated success in supervising or coordinating staff, delegating tasks, monitoring workflow, and ensuring operational goals are consistently met.

• Can take responsibility and accountability of inventory integrity, including receiving, stocking, selling, delivering, cycle counts, audits, reconciliations, and corrective action for discrepancies.

• You understand the critical role that security, accuracy, and accountability play in maintaining a safe, efficient, and compliant commissary operations within a correctional environment. 

• You are confident in making independent, sound operational decisions in a fast-paced environment.

• You consistently enforce policies and procedures while modeling professionalism and holding others accountable to established standards.

• You can proactively communicate operational risks, staffing needs, and express concerns to the Commissary Operations Managers.

• You actively seek and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and strengthen inventory control systems.

• You are prepared to serve as the primary operational leader on-site, ensuring continuity, stability, and high performance of commissary functions.

• Work sights visits will be conducted,

• No study material,

• No pre-test required, 

• No telephonic interviews will be conducted; and

• Training Academy will be required.
