Job Duties:
This position provides leadership and oversight for programming designed to address the unique needs of women in TDCJ custody. This position manages the day-to-day operations of the Female Programs area while also helping shape its broader direction, ensuring programs, policies, and practices remain effective, consistent, and responsive to operational needs.
The position leads and develops staff, establishes program goals and priorities, monitors program performance, evaluates opportunities for improvement, and develops policies, procedures, and operational guidance. The position also supports budget development and monitoring, prepares management and productivity reports, assists with special projects and research, and provides recommendations to division leadership.
This role serves as a subject-matter resource for Female Programs and represents the program area in meetings, conferences, committees, and other internal and external settings. It requires someone who can move comfortably between people leadership, program oversight, policy development, problem-solving, and day-to-day operations.
You'd be a GOOD fit if:
You have experience in program administration, social services, counseling, therapeutic services, or a related field.
You have experience supervising employees and managing competing priorities.
You understand, or are interested in, gender-responsive and trauma-informed programming.
You can develop and implement policies, procedures, program goals, and operational expectations.
You are comfortable reviewing program information and using it to identify problems and recommend improvements.
You communicate clearly and can coordinate effectively with staff, leadership, other departments, and external partners.
You are comfortable preparing reports, presenting information, and providing technical guidance.
You can work independently while knowing when an issue needs to be elevated.
You'd be a GREAT fit if:
You're a strong people leader who can coach staff, establish accountability, and build a cohesive team.
You can look beyond individual programs and understand how staffing, operations, policy, population needs, and resources affect the overall Female Programs portfolio.
You don't just identify problems. You can develop practical solutions and carry them through implementation.
You're comfortable evaluating whether programs and processes are actually accomplishing what they're intended to accomplish.
You can manage multiple initiatives simultaneously without losing sight of routine operations.
You are confident representing Female Programs with executive leadership, operational partners, external stakeholders, and other agency divisions.
You can take broad direction, translate it into an actionable plan, and keep leadership informed of progress, barriers, and decisions needed.
