Department Overview:
Internera’s Technology Department helps small businesses use technology to improve their visibility, operations, reporting, and customer experience. The department works across digital platform optimization, website development, business systems, data dashboards, workflow automation, artificial intelligence, and product development.Technology team members identify real business challenges, research practical solutions, build and improve technical systems, and explain technology in a way that business owners and nontechnical team members can understand.

This position will be hybrid with most work able to be completed remotely. There will be occasional meetings where you will be required to come in-person to our home-base at The Rigby in downtown Madison. This position will be about 10 hours per week.Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Science, Software Engineering, Web Development, or a related fieldStrong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
Comfortable researching and learning unfamiliar technology
Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to meet deadlines
Able to explain technical information to nontechnical people
Interested in AI, automation, and emerging technology
Able to work independently while collaborating with a team
Experience with coding, websites, APIs, databases, Airtable, analytics, SEO, automation, or AI tools is helpful but not required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Basic understanding of websites, digital platforms, and online business systems
Strong technical research and problem-solving skills
Ability to identify, test, and troubleshoot technical issues
Ability to learn new software and systems
Ability to organize projects and maintain clear documentation
Ability to communicate technical information clearly
Ability to recognize when an issue should be escalated
Commitment to confidentiality, data privacy, and responsible technology use
Curiosity, initiative, adaptability, and consistent follow-through
Position Summary/Job Duties:
The Technology Intern supports technology projects for Internera and its clients. This is a progressive internship: the intern begins with practical digital optimization work and advances to more technical projects as skills and experience grow.
Responsibilities may include:
Level 1: Digital Optimization
Optimize SEO, Google Business Profiles, and social media platforms
Conduct website and online-presence audits
Identify technical issues and recommend improvements
Research new tools, features, and technology
Level 2: Website Development
Build and update websites
Improve navigation, mobile performance, and user experience
Implement SEO, analytics, tracking, and integrations
Troubleshoot website issues
Level 3: Systems, Automation and AI
Build dashboards, Airtable systems, and reporting tools
Connect data from different systems
Create workflow automations and AI-assisted processes
Test and troubleshoot technical systems
Level 4: Product and Application Development
Support application and feature development
Assist with product testing and user experience
Work with integrations, APIs, AI features, and debugging
Contribute to research and product development
Interns will also document their work, communicate project updates, protect confidential information, and assist with additional technology projects as assigned.
