About this role

The Office of Business, Hospitality and Auxiliary Services (BHAS) is seeking a Part-Time Temporary Events Assistant to assist our Heinz Memorial Chapel Team with evening and weekend events. Duties for this role include, but are not limited to

 

  • Serves as the Chapel representative at events for clients, vendors and guests.

  • Acts as a building steward, maintaining keys and badge access. Secures and opens the building.

  • Oversees vendor and client compliance with guidelines and strict time schedules.

  • Develops an understanding of all technical aspects of the Chapel including audio and lighting systems and recorded organ system.

  • Assists with restocking supplies for the Chapel shop, Visitor Hours, and events.

  • Assists with administrative tasks such as data entry for Chapel statistics and newsletter sign-ups.

  • Becomes familiar with Chapel history, architecture, and art to provide in-depth responses to guest questions.

  • Ability to provide impromptu mini tours as needed. 

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

 

Incumbent must be available to work during the University of Pittsburgh winter recess. Weekend and evening availability will be required in this position, as needed during the typical academic schedule and summer months. Work varies each week based on scheduled events.

 

Note: This position is part-time and will pay $18 per hour. Chapel guidelines and policies need to be followed; however, each event requires the incumbent to be sensitive to the individuals involved. Must handle difficult and complex situations with tact and diplomacy to maintain a service-oriented environment. Weekend and evening work is essential.


Requires extended periods of standing and walking during events, regular traversing of the Chapel building and grounds. The ability to stand, sit, walk, and bend are required. 

 

A High School Diploma or GED is required.  Customer service and/or event planning experience preferred.
