About this role

The Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering, College of Engineering at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, assistant professor position with a 9-month academic appointment and the possibility of an additional summer appointment contingent upon need and availability of funds, beginning Fall 2027.

The principal focus of this position is in Process Systems Engineering. We seek candidates with strong expertise in one or more areas of computational and algorithmic methods; scientific artificial intelligence and machine learning; multiscale modeling and simulation; large-scale optimization; and hybrid, physics, and/or data-driven approaches for the design, operation, control, and decision-making under uncertainty in processing systems. Research applications may include sustainable chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and fuels, resilient energy systems, advanced manufacturing, the circular economy, and other emerging challenges in chemical and process systems engineering.

The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain a nationally recognized, externally funded research program at the intersection of process systems engineering, chemical engineering, and decision science. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to, multiscale modeling; optimization; and computational methods for the design, operation, control, and decision-making under uncertainty in processing systems.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct original, scholary research; build self-sustaining research programs; teach both graduate and undergraduate courses and mentor students; and contribute an appropriate degree of service to the Department, College, University, and profession.

Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as active engagement in departmental, college, and professional service. The position offers extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across Texas A&M’s strengths in engineering, life sciences, and agriculture, and aligns with university-wide investments in biomanufacturing and sustainability.


Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Process Systems Engineering, or a closely related field, with an outstanding record of scholarly achievement, ability to secure competitive research funding, and evidence of effective teaching and mentorship.
